Dangers of Ultraviolet Light on Your Eyes?

Did you know that macular degeneration and cataracts may be caused by exposure to ultraviolet light rays? For years it has been known that wearing sunglasses helps protect the eyes from damage. Unfortunately, many people don’t wear adequate sun protection. Here are a few facts about the danger of ultraviolet light:

-Fewer than 1 in 10 know that ultraviolet light can harm their eyes.
-90% of skin cancer occurs from the neck up.
-3.2 million people lose their vision each year due to prolonged ultraviolet exposure.
-Eyes are the only internal tissue directly exposed to ultraviolet light.
-No amount of ultraviolet light is good for the eyes.

Protection from Ultraviolet Light

The best way to protect yourself from UV is to wear sunglasses when your are outside; and get the  most UV protection possible from your regular glasses.  Essilor, a lens manufacturing company, has introduced a new broad spectrum technology in their Crizal UV anti-reflective coatings that virtually eliminates UV light reflection into the eyes.  This technology helps preserve long term eye health while maintaining maximum visible light transmission for crisper, clearer vision.  So, put on your shades and, on your next pair of glasses, ask for Crizal UV coatings to preserve your precious sight.
